25 YEARS.. PASSION FOR THE CRAFT

Daniëlle

“My history with Annaline began back in 1987, long before Mes Amis even existed. As part of my studies, I did an internship at restaurant ’t Kläöske on Onze Lieve Vrouweplein. At the time, Annaline was working as a hostess and restaurant manager at L’escale and Le Vigneron. After I completed my studies, Annaline and Frans asked if I would like to come and work at Le Vigneron. Not only did I learn a great deal there, but I also met my husband Roy. When Annaline moved to Restaurant De Hertog, she asked me to join her. I didn't hesitate for a second.”

Growing Together
“During that period, I also made the transition from front of house service to the kitchen, a decision that would ultimately shape the rest of my career. Meanwhile, Patriek and Germaine were born, and I had the pleasure of watching them grow into the man and woman they are today.

When Annaline and Frans decided to open their own restaurant, I didn't need much time to think about it. Of course I wanted to join them again! From the opening on 3 October 2001, together with Chantal Mulleneers, we were part of the team that laid the foundations of Mes Amis. While Annaline, Chantal and I welcomed the first guests downstairs, Frans was still busy upstairs, putting the finishing touches on the restaurant

A Close Team
“In the years that followed, I watched Mes Amis grow. Chefs Roland van de Laarschot and later Jeffrey Meerssen brought fresh ideas and greater ambitions. Renovations took place, the kitchen and menu evolved, and step by step, Mes Amis developed into the restaurant it is today. Together, we shared both wonderful and difficult moments. It was especially during those challenging times that you realised just how close our team really was.

After thirty years of sharing life's ups and downs, I decided in 2017 to try something new. Following a period working at the university, I now thoroughly enjoy working in the kitchen at MUMC+. Something completely different, but incredibly rewarding!

I look back on everything we experienced together with so much warmth and affection. Annaline, I wish you a wonderful retirement. Enjoy every moment of it. You've more than earned it.”
